Sam Billings executed a remarkable no-look gather and flick on the stumps, reminiscent of Indian great and former captain MS Dhoni, in the ILT20 match. The batsman was unaware and was dismissed.
The nimble effort in the Desert Vipers’ 22-run victory against the Sharjah Warriors was led by Billings, who turned the game in favor of his team. The Sharjah Warriors aimed to score 149 runs, but got off to a steady start, reaching 50-2 in eight overs.
Wanindu Hasaranga started for Desert Vipers and Marcus Stoinis was lbw for 17. Billings added another wicket in the next over. Benny Howell bowled to Denly, who defended the ball and it bounced away behind square on the off-side. Denly took a step outside the crease to check for a single opportunity.
Billings quickly reacted and flicked the ball behind him, causing Denly’s stumps to crash. The Sharjah Warriors tried to take a single off the deflection but a TV umpire review revealed Denly was already out.
The dismissal of Denly was uncertain whether it was a stumping or run out, with the determination resting on whether Denly was trying to run or not. The scorers ultimately ruled it a run out.
