WATCH : Shreyas Iyer’s 106M Six almost hits Dhanashree Verma and Yuzvendra Chahal in stands

In a remarkable display of cricketing prowess, Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer delivered a standout performance in his career against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Batting at No.4, the right-handed batsman exhibited unwavering determination right from the outset, eschewing a cautious run-a-ball approach and opting instead for an aggressive counter-attack. He didn’t hesitate to unleash a flurry of powerful sixes and fours.

Despite the Sri Lankan bowlers’ best efforts to contain him, Shreyas Iyer remained impervious, showcasing impeccable technique and fearlessly tormenting the bowlers. While he had faced criticism for relinquishing his wicket in recent games, he staged a remarkable comeback against Sri Lanka, earning well-deserved acclaim for his exceptional innings.

During his time at the crease, Shreyas Iyer smashed the longest six of the 2023 World Cup, sending the ball soaring an astonishing 106 meters. Interestingly, the ball was headed in the direction of notable figures in the stands, including Yuzvendra Chahal, Dhanashree Verma (Chahal’s wife), Ritika Sajdeh (Rohit Sharma’s wife), and other cricketers’ partners, who quickly scrambled to relocate and avoid being struck by the towering shot.

Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer compiled an impressive score of 82 runs off 56 balls, including three fours and six massive sixes, at a commendable strike rate of 146.43. Team India concluded their innings at 357/8 in 50 overs, with Shubman Gill being the top-scorer, amassing 92 runs off 92 balls, featuring 11 fours and 2 sixes.

On the flip side, Sri Lanka’s innings came to a screeching halt, as they were bowled out for a mere 55 runs. This victory marked India’s largest triumph in ODI World Cup history and the second-largest overall in the tournament’s annals.

Rohit Sharma and his team clinched the game by an overwhelming margin of 302 runs. India’s seasoned fast bowler, Mohammed Shami, received the Player of the Match award for his outstanding performance, claiming 5 wickets for just 18 runs in 5 overs.
