During the 2nd India-West Indies T20I, Shubman Gill, the promising Indian batsman, faced severe criticism for claiming a false catch. The incident occurred while he was positioned at first slip during Ravi Bishnoi’s bowling. This incident came on the heels of him being a victim of a false catch during the WTC Final, which has led to netizens trolling him extensively.
At a crucial juncture in the game, Nicholas Pooran and Shimron Hetmyer were steering the match in favor of the West Indies. In response, Captain Hardik Pandya brought in leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi with an aggressive field setting in the 13th over.
The Indian team’s plan seemed to work when Bishnoi managed to get the outside edge of Hetmyer’s bat. The ball flew towards Shubman, who was eagerly waiting for an opportunity. Despite the ball landing just short of his hands, Gill celebrated the catch confidently.
Shubman’s apparent confidence led his teammates to believe that the catch was taken cleanly, and even Hetmyer started walking back to the pavilion. However, the television replays showed a different story altogether, with the ball clearly bouncing before settling into Gill’s hands.

After the visual evidence surfaced, Shubman became the subject of mocking tweets and comments on social media. Many netizens questioned his sportsmanship, while some reminded him of the time he was given out due to an unfair catch claim by Cameron Green during the WTC 2023 Finals. Frustrated, Gill had taken a dig at Cameron Green back then.
