On Tuesday, in Mohali, cricket fans had high expectations for Liam Livingstone’s performance in Match 27 of IPL 2023, where Punjab Kings were facing off against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Unfortunately, their anticipation was short-lived as the Englishman lost his wicket after scoring only 2 runs off 4 balls. Nonetheless, it was the manner of his dismissal that was of particular note.
In the fourth over, Mohammed Siraj delivered a well-pitched ball angled towards the middle and leg stump. Despite stepping forward, Livingstone was unable to make contact with the ball. Siraj promptly appealed for an LBW, but the on-field umpire remained unperturbed and did not signal a dismissal.
In the absence of a fully-fit Faf du Plessis, RCB captain Virat Kohli approached Dinesh Karthik and Siraj to discuss the possibility of a DRS review. After careful consideration, Kohli decided to challenge the decision, and it turned out to be one of the most successful DRS calls of the season.
When the replay was displayed on the big screen, Livingstone appeared to be confident that he would not be given out and wore a big smile on his face. However, his expression changed abruptly when the ball-tracking system indicated that the ball would have struck the top of the leg stump.
As RCB players celebrated their crucial wicket, Livingstone slowly made his way back to the pavilion following his dismissal.
