The Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2023 final was a lopsided contest as Lyca Kovia Kings dominated Nellai Royal Kings, securing a resounding 104-run victory on Wednesday to claim the championship title. Jhatavedh Subramanyan emerged as the standout performer, earning the Player of the Match award for his impressive figures of 4/21.
His exceptional bowling display played a crucial role in dismantling Nellai, who faltered at 101 while chasing the daunting target of 206. The dismissal of Rithik Easwaran, the Nellai keeper, attracted significant attention during the match.
It occurred in the fourth delivery of the eighth over, bowled by Subramanyan, who cleverly delivered a deceptive googly that turned away from Rithik. In an attempt to execute a powerful slog sweep, Rithik mistimed his shot, resulting in a top edge that soared high into the air.
Realizing his error, Rithik was visibly disappointed and began to rise to his feet. However, Suresh Kumar, Lyca’s fielder, was unaware of the situation and forcefully nudged Rithik aside to complete the catch.

Although this incident raised some eyebrows, it did not escalate into a controversy as neither player had any intention to obstruct the field. While the Nellai keeper started celebrating the dismissal with his teammates, Rithik dejectedly made his way back to the pavilion.
