WATCH : Three glorious sixes take Rohit past Gayle in all-time list

India got off to a strong start in their chase of 305 in the second ODI against England, reaching a solid 48/0 after 6.1 overs when play was briefly halted due to a floodlight failure.

Both Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma looked in superb form, with Rohit appearing to have regained his rhythm after a challenging few months in international cricket. As the runs flowed, so did records for Rohit, further cementing his status as one of the greatest ODI batters to ever play the game.

At the start of the match, Rohit was tied with Chris Gayle on 331 ODI sixes, with only Shahid Afridi (351) ahead of them in the all-time list. It took Rohit just seven deliveries to move into second place, as he flicked his wrists beautifully to send a delivery from Gus Atkinson soaring over midwicket—the very same shot that had led to his dismissal in the first ODI.

In the next over, Rohit showcased his effortless power again, this time hitting Saqib Mahmood for a six with a graceful shot that saw him open the face of the bat to guide the ball to the boundary.

Two overs later, Mahmood was once again on the receiving end, as Rohit lofted a stunning drive straight over the bowler’s head for another six, pausing briefly to strike a pose for the cameras in full glory.

Rohit is now just 18 sixes away from becoming the player with the most sixes in ODI history, sparking excitement among fans on Twitter.
