Watch: Throwback Clip of Rohit Sharma Battling Pace and Bounce in 2019 Adelaide ODI

A throwback clip of India’s ODI skipper Rohit Sharma has resurfaced on X, where he can be seen battling the fiery pace of Australia’s left-arm quick Jason Behrendorff. The video is from India’s second ODI during their 2019 tour of Australia, played at the Adelaide Oval. At the time, India was chasing a challenging target of 299 runs under testing conditions.

The footage highlights just how difficult it can be for batters to face high-quality fast bowling, especially when the conditions favour movement and bounce. Rohit, standing slightly outside his crease, had to deal with sharp seam movement and unpredictable bounce. Behrendorff kept him constantly guessing, mixing up his deliveries by cutting across, angling in, and using the bounce to unsettle the opener.

The particular over showcased in the clip reflects the contest perfectly. On the first ball, Rohit punched a shorter delivery through point and cover for two runs. The next two balls jagged in with extra bounce, clipping his thigh pad on both occasions. The fourth and fifth deliveries were solidly defended, while the final ball—a full and wide one outside off—beat Rohit’s attempted cover drive.

Despite the early struggles, Rohit managed to build a steady innings. He went on to score 43 runs off 52 balls, an effort that included two boundaries and two towering sixes. His innings provided India with a crucial platform in what turned out to be a tense run chase. Ultimately, India crossed the line with just four balls remaining, keeping the series alive.

Over the course of the three-match ODI series, Rohit Sharma’s consistency stood out. He amassed 185 runs across his three innings, underlining his importance at the top of the order. The resurfaced video serves as a reminder not only of the challenges posed by quality pace bowling but also of Rohit’s grit and determination to anchor India in tough overseas conditions.
