WATCH : TNPL Fielder goes outside boundary to take the catch; Netizens call it a ‘Lagaan’ moment

On July 3rd, at the Indian Cement Company Ground in Tirunelveli, the Dindigul Dragons emerged victorious in the TNPL match against the Salem Spartans, winning by 7 wickets. During the intense clash between the Dindigul Dragons and the Salem Spartans, Aushik Srinivas committed an unfortunate mistake by stepping outside the boundary line while attempting to catch, thus granting R Kavin a second chance to continue his innings.

Salem Spartans’ batsman R Kavin exhibited an explosive display, smashing 25 runs off just 9 deliveries. He added pressure on the Dindigul bowling lineup by striking three boundaries in the 5th over bowled by pacer Saravana Kumar.

In a bid to counter Kavin’s aggression, Saravana Kumar decided to bowl a bouncer on the final delivery of his over. Kavin hooked the ball towards the fine leg region, where Aushik Srinivas was stationed near the boundary. As the ball headed in Srinivas’s direction, he carelessly continued moving backward and unintentionally stepped outside the boundary line. Even though he managed to catch the ball, it was ruled as a six, granting Kavin a lifeline due to Srinivas’s schoolboy error.

The video of this incident quickly went viral on various social media platforms, with netizens comparing it to a famous scene from the movie ‘Lagaan.’ In that scene, a British fielder crosses the boundary line to take a catch on the last ball. The commentator himself was taken aback by the blunder committed by Srinivas on the boundary line.

The commentator expressed his astonishment on air, exclaiming, “What is he doing out there? He should have tried for it from inside the boundary line. I can’t believe what I’m seeing. Aushik Srinivas has shown an absolute lack of awareness.” The commentator appeared completely shocked by the dreadful mistake made by Srinivas on the boundary line.
