In the sixth World Cup encounter between New Zealand and the Netherlands at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, the Dutch team won the toss and chose to field first.
Despite beginning with three maiden overs, the Kiwis managed to establish a solid 67-run opening partnership before Roelof van der Merwe dismissed Devon Conway. The Netherlands continued to take wickets at regular intervals, maintaining control over the score.
However, there was still the formidable presence of Daryl Mitchell on the field, showcasing his brutal hitting skills. This display reached its zenith in the 37th over and was even acknowledged by the bowler.
In the second delivery of the over, van Meerken delivered a full ball to the Kiwi, and Mitchell couldn’t resist taking a swing as it was right in his wheelhouse. Mitchell struck the ball perfectly, sending it straight back towards the bowler, narrowly missing him, and propelling it with enough force to dislodge one of the stumps.
Van Meerken responded to this remarkable shot in the best possible manner. He turned towards the batsman, folded his hands, and with a smile on his face, offered a bow. Initially appearing disappointed, Mitchell soon broke into a smile himself, appreciating the bowler’s sporting reaction.
