In the IPL 2023 match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday, Mohammed Siraj provided a strong start for RCB by dismissing Jos Buttler for a duck in their pursuit of a massive 190 runs.
However, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Devdutt Padikkal led RR’s recovery by adding 98 runs for the second wicket, before Padikkal departed for 52(34) against David Willey. Yashasvi scored 47(37) while Sanju Samson managed 22(15) before being dismissed in quick succession.
After being dismantled by Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell, who both scored blistering half-centuries, RCB amassed a challenging total of 189/9 in 20 overs. This came after Trent Boult shook the home side by reducing them to 12/2 in 2.1 overs, which included the prized wicket of Virat Kohli for a duck.
However, Maxwell and Du Plessis didn’t waste any time and added 127(67) runs for the third wicket, undeterred by the early setbacks. Yashasvi ended Du Plessis’ innings of 62(39) with a direct hit, and R Ashwin removed Maxwell for 77(44). RR put up a tremendous fightback in the afternoon.
Jaiswal is caught by Kohli off Harshal Patel’s delivery! This is a classic example of how pressure can affect a batter. As Jaiswal approached his half-century, he slowed down his pace, and Harshal cleverly bowled a slower delivery that turned into a low full toss. Jaiswal attempted to hit it over long-on, but he only managed to hit it into the hands of Captain Kohli. RCB is now gaining the upper hand.
