Virat Kohli stirred up some controversy towards the end of the second day of the 1st Test between India and Bangladesh in Chennai when he chose not to use the DRS despite a clear inside edge.

Kohli was in good form, batting on 17 with two boundaries, and appeared set to guide India safely to stumps. However, with four overs remaining, he was given out LBW to Mehidy Hasan Miraz, sparking wild celebrations from the Bangladesh team.

As umpire Richard Kettleborough raised his finger, Kohli approached Shubman Gill at the non-striker’s end to seek his partner’s opinion on the decision.

Surprisingly, despite being known for his willingness to review, Kohli, after a brief discussion, began to head back to the pavilion. From the television footage, it seemed that Gill even mouthed ‘le lo’ (take it) to Kohli, but perhaps believing he was out in front of the stumps, Virat didn’t hesitate.

Then came the shocker. When the replay appeared on the big screen, there was a noticeable spike on Ultra Edge, indicating a solid contact with the bat just as the ball passed. Did Kohli not realize it?

As the batter, he is usually the one best positioned to know whether the ball hit the bat. His decision not to take the DRS left everyone in disbelief, including the on-air commentator and his former coach Ravi Shastri.
