Having won the toss, India opted to bat first. The visitors got a horrible start to their innings as in-form opener Prithvi Shaw departed for a duck. Thankfully, captain Shikhar Dhawan and man in form Suryakumar Yadav were there to take charge of the innings. Suryakumar Yadav played yet another classy knock of 50 off 34 and was supported well by Shikhar Dhawan (46 of 36). Unfortunately, none of the other Indian batsmen rose up to the occasion and the Blues could put up a target of only 165 runs.
However, it was a good enough score for the Indian bowlers to defend and they did just that. The Indian bowlers started to press hard from the very first over and they got the results. Yuzvendra Chahal picked up a wicket on his very second delivery. Dhananjaya de Silva was under tremendous pressure for the increasing net run rate and the RCB leg-spinner striked hard, clean bowling the Sri Lankan.
