Yuzvendra Chahal hopeful to get his maiden red ball call-up soon

Yuzvendra Chahal has established himself as one of India’s most successful spinners in white ball cricket throughout the years, and he holds the record for the highest number of wickets in IPL history. With 187 wickets to his name, his IPL career has been remarkable. Since his international debut in 2016, Chahal has proven his mettle by taking 121 wickets in 72 ODI matches and 91 wickets in 75 T20I matches. However, he has yet to make his Test debut. Nevertheless, Chahal recently expressed his desire to represent India in Test cricket during an interaction with Crictracker.

Chahal stated, “Every cricketer harbors the dream of representing their team on the international stage, and reaching the pinnacle by donning whites and playing red-ball cricket. I share a similar dream. While I have achieved a lot in white-ball cricket, red-ball cricket still remains on my checklist. The tag of ‘Test cricketer’ alongside my name is a dream I cherish. I strive to give my best in domestic and Ranji games, hoping to fulfill this aspiration. I eagerly await the opportunity to represent the Indian Test team.”

In recent times, Chahal has not been included in white ball ODI events. He was absent from both the Asia Cup and the 2022 T20 World Cup. Despite proving his worth in white-ball cricket, he has been unable to participate in any ICC events for a couple of years.

“That’s alright, you know. Some things are beyond our control, so I don’t dwell on them too much. My focus remains on giving my best and performing well as long as I am playing the game. Regardless of the match, my aim is to give my all, delivering 100%. Selection is not something we have control over. Whether I am playing or not, wearing the blue jersey and being part of the squad always instills confidence. At least I’m there and prepared for whatever comes next,” Chahal shared.

In the recently concluded IPL edition, Chahal showcased his skills by capturing 21 wickets in 14 appearances. He emerged as the leading wicket-taker for the Rajasthan Royals franchise, surpassing Dwayne Bravo earlier this year to become the highest wicket-taker in IPL history. Throughout his IPL career, spanning 145 appearances, Chahal has accumulated an impressive tally of 187 wickets.
