In a peculiar incident, Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw was reportedly involved in a physical altercation outside a nightclub in Mumbai on Thursday. According to reports, Shaw got into a physical altercation with a social media influencer and her friends after he reportedly declined their requests for selfies.
A video of Prithvi Shaw allegedly manhandling a woman outside a nightclub is being widely circulated on social media. In the aftermath of a brawl with the Indian cricketer, several individuals have reportedly been charged with extortion and unlawful assembly.
According to reports, the altercation began after Shaw declined a request for selfies from eight individuals while sitting in the front seat of his friend’s car. The individuals allegedly attacked Shaw and pelted stones at his friend’s car in response to the refusal.
On Thursday, Prithvi Shaw was involved in a fight incident while leaving a location that some reports suggest was a night club while others claim it was a hotel in Mumbai. A freelance reporter named Mohsin shared a video on social media of the altercation between the 23-year-old cricketer and influencer Sapna Gill, stating that it allegedly started when a group requested a photo with Shaw and then escalated into a fight.
The video that has been circulated shows Prithvi Shaw pushing a girl, who is heard shouting that being a cricketer doesn’t give him the right to do anything. A man in the video can be heard complaining to the police that Shaw’s friends hit them, including social media influencer Sapna Gill, while they were in the club.
Several other reports suggest that the attack resulted in the car’s windscreen being shattered. The attackers also allegedly demanded INR 50000 in extortion to not file a false case against the car occupant. A case has been filed against the attackers under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code. The Oshiwara police have registered a case against the accused under sections 143, 148, 149, 384, 437, 504, 506 of the IPC and have initiated an investigation.
“Oshiwara Police has registered a case against 8 persons over an alleged attack on the car of a friend of Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw after Shaw refused to take a selfie for the second time with two people,” Mumbai Police said in a statement, as quoted by a news agency.
