On February 19, in the second Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2023 between India and Australia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, a run out occurred between Skipper Rohit Sharma and Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara.
In the 7th over of India’s second innings, Matthew Kuhneman was bowling when Rohit Sharma, who was playing an attacking innings, scored 31 runs in 20 balls on a turning track, took the first run after pushing the ball on-side in front of the square, then turned back for the second run but was stopped midway due to miscommunication between the two batters.
Rohit Sharma decided to sacrifice his wicket for Pujara, who was playing his 100th Test match, by letting his partner pass, and left the field in disappointment.
The Indian bowlers, led by left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja with seven wickets and veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin with three wickets, bundled out the opposition for just 113 runs. Before lunch, India came to bat with a small target of 115 runs.
However, India vice- captain and opener KL Rahul continued his poor form in the longer format of the game and was dismissed for 1 run in Nathan Lyon’s bowling. With his failure in the first two matches, KL Rahul is unlikely to retain his place in the playing XI for the third Test match.
