On Saturday, former India spinner Harbhajan Singh suggested that Ravindra Jadeja would be the ideal candidate for India’s vice-captaincy in Test cricket. According to Harbhajan, this would give the all-rounder a sense of responsibility and motivate him further.
Harbhajan also supported Jadeja’s appointment as Rohit Sharma’s deputy in ODI cricket, citing his excellent performance across all formats for the Chennai Super Kings.
India’s Border-Gavaskar Trophy team did not announce a vice-captain for the last two Tests, following KL Rahul’s mediocre performance in the first two matches. Although India had already secured a 2-0 lead and retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Rohit Sharma’s men needed to maintain their winning momentum to qualify for the World Test Championship final.
Despite his poor form across all formats, KL Rahul was designated as the vice-captain for the first two Tests of the four-match series. The team management supported the Lucknow Super Giants captain, who had previously led India in a two-Test series in Bangladesh in the absence of Rohit Sharma.
With Rahul’s place in the XI once again in doubt, Harbhajan Singh praised Jadeja’s consistency with both bat and ball and stated that he is arguably the best all-rounder in recent times in Test cricket.
