In the third match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) held at Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium between Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz, a peculiar incident occurred during the first innings.
In the 10th over of the Giants’ innings, Sushma Verma attempted to scoop a ball delivered by Rajeshwari Gayakwad but failed to connect with it despite the ball being inside the line of the off stump.
Although Verma managed to take a single as Warriorz captain and wicket-keeper Alyssa Healy failed to catch the ball cleanly, on-field umpire Chirra Ravikanthreddy surprisingly called it as a wide. Healy quickly realized that the ball was within the line and challenged the decision.
Upon reviewing the replays on the big screen, Healy’s challenge was proven correct, leading to Ravikanthreddy overturning the wide call. However, the umpire forgot to signal bye, drawing criticism from Twitter users.
