Shafali-Lanning duo as Delhi Capitals dominate UP Warriorz in lopsided match

Delhi Capitals’ decision to bowl first paid off handsomely as they swiftly dismantled the top-order of UP Warriorz during the powerplay. Marizanne Kapp of Delhi proved pivotal, claiming the key wickets of Vrinda Dinesh, Tahlia McGrath, and Alyssa Healy, leaving the Warriorz struggling at 21/3 by the powerplay’s conclusion.

The situation worsened for Warriorz as Grace Harris departed after a brief stint, managing only 17 runs off 18 balls. Despite some stability brought in by partnerships between Shweta Sehrawat and Poonam Khemnar in the middle order, Warriorz couldn’t withstand the pressure, losing quick wickets thereafter. With half the side back in the pavilion, Warriorz seemed vulnerable at 64/5 by the 13th over.

In the slog overs, a resilient 24-run partnership between Deepti Sharma and Sehrawat pushed Warriorz to a modest total of 119/9. The Delhi Capitals’ batting innings began emphatically, with openers Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma launching an aggressive onslaught on the UP bowlers from the outset.

Their partnership flourished, propelling Delhi to 57/0 by the powerplay’s conclusion and further extending to 82/0 after 10 overs. The relentless assault by Lanning and Verma posed a significant challenge for UP. Verma showcased her brilliance, reaching a half-century in just 36 deliveries, while Lanning matched her with a fifty of her own in 42 deliveries.

Even though Lanning departed with just one run needed for victory, Jemimah Rodrigues efficiently sealed the win for Delhi, wrapping up the game in 14.2 overs with a convincing nine-wicket margin.
