A mere piece of paper posed a greater challenge for the Australians compared to the Pakistani batsmen

After posting an imposing 487 in their first innings, the hosts dominated, restricting Pakistan to a mere 271. Opting against pursuing a target, Australia took to the crease again.

Despite Pakistan’s fast bowlers initially causing a stir, reducing the hosts to 107/4, the formidable 126-run partnership between Usman Khawaja and Mitch Marsh firmly shifted the game’s momentum. Subsequently, Mitch Starc dismissed Abdullah Shafique, while Josh Hazlewood claimed Shan Masood with Imam ul Haq falling in between.

The match appeared to be heading swiftly towards a conclusion when an unexpected hero emerged to captivate the crowd. During Pat Cummins’ third over, a disturbance unfolded on the field.

A piece of paper, seemingly from a spectator enjoying a meal, made its way into the playing area. Marnus Labuschagne was the first to attempt to intercept it, but just as he approached, the paper darted towards Nathan Lyon. Despite Lyon’s efforts to contain it, the paper evaded him swiftly.

Usman Khawaja, who contributed a remarkable 90 runs in the second innings, found himself caught up in an unexpected challenge. The paper nearly tripped him up, eluding his attempts to stamp it down, leaving the Australian player trailing behind.

Eventually, in a familiar turn of events, it was Steve Smith who came to Australia’s rescue. He successfully caught the paper and stowed it in his pocket, much to the delight of the onlookers. The former captain even celebrated his achievement in a lighthearted manner.
