Indian Premier League franchise Mumbai Indians have officially revealed that they are replacing fast bowler Arjun Tendukar (who they bought in the auction of IPL 2020 for a base price of 30 lakhs) with domestic player Simarjeet Singh as the former has been ruled out of the tournament due to an injury that he suffered during the training sessions.
Simarjeet Singh plays for the Delhi team in domestic tournaments. According to reports, the swap was being planned for a long time and Simarjeet has already started training with the Mumbai Indians squad after completing his 14-days quarantine as is the known rule under the COVID-19 norms of IPL 2021.
When Mumbai Indians bought Arjun Tendulkar in the auction of IPL 2021, the cricket fans on the internet were divided. A part of the fans were trolling Arjun Tendkulkar as they thought that it was only due to his father Sachin’s influence in the Mumbai Indians team that he was bought by the franchise. For the unknown, Sachin Tendulkar is the mentor of Mumbai Indians this season as well and as we know, he was also the former captain of the team and has immense experience as a mentor for the franchise.
It is definitely an unfortunate scenario for the youngster as he did not get the chance to play a single match in his maiden IPL season and had to be replaced in such an unfortunate way. The 22-year old was earlier known in the cricket circuit of Indian not only as Sachin’s son but also as a regular net-bowler of Team India. He has travelled with team India on various tours as their net bowler and it will be foolish to say that he has had no prior experience. Hopefully he will be able to make a brilliant comeback in the upcoming season.
