Contestants take 2 lifelines, almost give wrong answer for ODI World Cup

During a ‘Parivaar [family] special’ episode of the popular Indian game show ‘KBC: Kaun Banega Crorepati,’ a question related to the ODI World Cup led to a challenging moment for three contestants, prompting them to utilize a couple of their available lifelines.

The question, worth ₹80,000, was presented by the show’s host, Amitabh Bachchan. He asked the three family members to identify the two teams that had both played in the 2019 World Cup Final and contested the opening game of the 2023 ODI World Cup. The question was phrased as follows:

“Which two teams, the finalists of the 2019 ODI World Cup, played the opening match of the 2023 ODI World Cup?”

Following the show’s format, the contestants were presented with four options:

  • Option A – England, Australia
  • Option B – England, New Zealand
  • Option C – England, West Indies
  • Option D – New Zealand, Australia

Initially, the contestants decided to use the ‘Video Call a Friend’ lifeline and reached out to ‘Anna Kaka’ for assistance. Unfortunately, ‘Anna Kaka’ did not possess a strong knowledge of cricket and was unable to provide the correct answer.

With their first lifeline attempt proving unfruitful, the contestants opted to employ the ‘Double Dip’ lifeline, which allowed them two attempts at answering. Their initial guess was Option A – England and Australia, but this proved to be incorrect. On their second attempt, they correctly guessed Option B – England and New Zealand.

It’s worth noting that the 2019 World Cup Final between England and New Zealand remains one of the most memorable and dramatic matches in cricket history, known for the unique “boundary count” rule and Ben Stokes’ miraculous boundary while running. However, it appeared that the contestants had limited knowledge of this historic game.
