Former England captain Michael Vaughan slams India’s top order batsman Cheteshwar Pujara. Vaughan says that Pujara is lost at the sea and has totally lost his mind and technique to play. Vaughan felt that Pujara’s sole intent was to spend time in the pitch and rather than make runs.
Pujara is not having a good time with his willow and it seems that the prodigy has lost his technique. In the ongoing test series against England Pujara has scored 71 runs in 5 innings at an embarrassing average of just 17.75.
In the first innings of the 3rd test at Headingly, Leeds Pujara was able to score just a run as James Anderson found his edge in the 4th over of the game. Pujara is struggling since the start of 2020 and has averaged less than 25 in tests.
Speaking on BBC’s Test Match podcast Vaughan said: “Pujara looks all at sea. Looks like he has lost his mind, lost his technique. Looks to me like he is playing purely for survival. And Jimmy found the outside edge of Pujara. And then it’s just pressure. The ball was swinging around nicely.”
Vaughan added: “I felt India got stuck in a bit, particularly Rohit Sharma. He is such a good player. He was almost playing just for survival. Jadeja played for survival. We are looking at Rishabh Pant, he played like a half and half shot. That’s not Rishabh.”
Vaughan felt that India did not show any intent to score runs and it looked like their sole motive is to survive in the pitch. Vaughan said that India probably didn’t have that desperation because of which their batting collapsed and India were bowled out at 78.
