Former England cricket team captain Joe Root is widely regarded as one of the best batsmen in the world, known for his exceptional consistency and vast array of shots. Root, who has achieved great success in Test cricket, has recently been impressing in the ongoing International T20 League in the United Arab Emirates with his unique style of batting.
Joe Root is known for his steady technique in cricket, but he is showing a new dimension of his game in the ILT20. Representing Dubai Capitals, the right-handed batter is dominating the bowlers from the start of the match.
During the 13th match of the ILT20 between Capitals and MI Emirates, Root delivered a remarkable batting performance, scoring 82 runs from just 54 deliveries. He hit 8 fours and 3 sixes and formed a match-altering partnership of 119 runs with his team captain Rovman Powell, who also played an excellent innings of 97, with 10 sixes and 4 fours.
During his impressive performance, Root showcased his signature shots, including the scoop shot, which he has performed successfully in both international and domestic cricket. For those who are unfamiliar, the scoop is a shot played when the ball is bowled wide of the off-stump, where the batter uses a vertical bat to lift the ball over the head of the wicket-keeper or towards the fine-leg region.
During his outstanding performance, Root executed the scoop shot twice. He first used it against Muhammad Waseem in the 15th over, sending the ball for a boundary over short fine leg. He then repeated the shot in the 16th over, hitting a six against Zahoor Khan.
