The third test between England and India ended in an embarrassing defeat for the visitors. The hosts won the match by an innings and 76 runs. India’s batting collapsed in both innings of the game which sealed the victory for the hosts.

England’s confidence has skyrocketed since sealing the victory at Headingly, Leeds. English pacers were brilliant with the new ball which broke the backbone of the Indian batting lineup. From fans to cricket analysts, questions have been raised on the Indian batting.

Questions have been mostly asked regarding Ajinkya Rahane’s position in the team. Rahane has been sensational in the past for India but his recent form has been an issue for the Indian team. The 33-year-old has struggled to score runs in the ongoing series as his saga of edging the ball outside the off stump continues. His score in the previous five innings are 5, 1, 61, 18, and 10.

In an interview with Cricbuzz, Michael Vaughan was talking with Harsha Bhogle. Vaughan clearly expressed his shock of the retention of Rahane in the side. He said that after a series of bad knocks, normally a player is asked to warm the bench. On the other hand, Rahane continues to be in the side and display the same poor form over and again. Michael Vaughan presented the examples of Dom Sibley and Zack Crawley, saying that these two have been expelled due to consecutive failures in a number of matches. Vaughan expects BCCI to do the same with Rahane.

“Rahane is an issue. And I think when see you these things happening, you have to make changes. England made changes, they got rid of Zak Crawley, they got rid of Dominic Sibley. I think India need to make changes. England need to see a different face or two at the Kennington Oval,” Vaughan said.

“I mean Rahane, is he being backed because of his vice-captaincy? Is he being backed because he played some outstanding innings in the last few years? but consistency-wise, he just doesn’t seem to find it,” Vaughan added.
