The Men in Blue, led by Hardik Pandya, faced a 2-3 defeat in the recently concluded five-match T20I series against West Indies. After consecutive losses in the initial T20Is, the Men in Blue mounted an impressive comeback in the third and fourth matches, resulting in a tied 2-2 series.
The series decider was at hand, but unfortunately, Pandya’s team suffered an eight-wicket loss in the final match, marking their first series defeat against the West Indies in 17 years. Nevertheless, this series setback garnered criticism from both fans and former cricketers who expressed dissatisfaction with the team’s subpar performances.
Amidst the criticism, veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin shared a message aimed at those who were quick to critique the Indian side. Speaking on his YouTube channel, R Ashwin commented, “There are numerous positives to take away from this T20I series.
While it’s convenient to pass judgment on the team via social media due to their loss against a team that hadn’t even qualified for the previous T20 World Cup, it’s worth noting that this team hasn’t secured a place in the upcoming 50-over World Cup either.”
Continuing his perspective, Ashwin conveyed, “I’m not advocating or supporting anyone here. These aspects are secondary. When young players journey to the West Indies, they inevitably encounter challenges. Losing the series 3-2 to West Indies has left many critics disgruntled. It’s reasonable and understandable; I suppose it’s only natural. However, we can view this defeat from two angles. The players will undoubtedly gain valuable experience from this series,” he concluded.
