The resumption of the 2021 edition of IPL began with the high voltage clash of Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians which is often termed as the ‘El Classico’ of cricket. This match always lives up to its expectations.

MS Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings opted to bat after winning the toss. CSK were without Sam Curran but they brought in Dwayne Bravo, Josh Hazlewood and Moeen Ali. However, their top order failed miserably and at one point it looked like MI are all over CSK. At the end of the powerplay CSK were at 24/4. However, Ruturaj Gaikwad scored an unbeaten 88 off 58 deliveries and CSK finished at 156/6 after 20 overs.

Mumbai Indians were without their star captain Rohit Sharma and all rounder Hardik Pandya. The target was an achievable one but MI fell short of 20 runs as they finished at 136/8 after 20 overs. Saurabh Tiwary scored an unbeaten 50 off 40 deliveries but that wasn’t enough for the win.

Sam Curran missed the opening day clash as he was under a mandatory quarantine of 6 days. Curran who was there in India’s tour to England arrived in UAE three days after the Indian players arrived. However, his mandatory quarantine period ended on Wednesday and is available for the upcoming match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Friday.

CSK announced the return of their star all rounder through a post on their official twitter handle.

CSK also posted a video on social media where Sam Curran, Faf du Plessis, Stephen Fleming, Cheteshwar Pujara, R Sai Kishore, and Karn Sharma were seen practicing under lights for their upcoming clash against RCB.

Sam Curran coming out of his quarantine period is good news for the yellow army. Curran was seen enhancing his skills with the bat and the ball in the nets. Curran was a big bonus for CSK in the 2020 edition of IPL though they failed to make it to the playoffs. Curran managed to score 186 runs in 14 matches and also picked up 13 wickets for the yellow army last season.

Sam Curran is one of the players MS Dhoni can surely rely on. Dhoni had termed Curran as a complete player and the all-rounder feels that something like this coming from him boosts one’s confidence. Curran once revealed that playing for CSK has helped him as he gets to learn from great players and their experiences.
