Following the shift in leadership at the Mumbai Indians (MI) franchise, Suryakumar Yadav’s wife, Devisha Shetty, initially posted a cryptic message on her Instagram story, which she later deleted.
On December 15, Mumbai Indians officially announced that all-rounder Hardik Pandya would assume captaincy for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Pandya, acquired from the Gujarat Titans (GT), will take over from Rohit Sharma, who led the team for a decade.
Numerous fans of Rohit and Mumbai Indians reportedly expressed discontent over the change in leadership within the MI franchise. Amidst this uproar, Devisha, Suryakumar’s wife, allegedly shared a cryptic Instagram post that read: “The way you treat people will always be remembered.”
However, the post has since been removed. Meanwhile, Suryakumar posted a broken heart emoji on Instagram the following Saturday, further fueling speculation surrounding the recent major changes within the Mumbai Indians camp. The 33-year-old recently delivered an outstanding century as India defeated South Africa in the third T20I in Johannesburg, resulting in a drawn three-match series.
Before Pandya’s arrival, Suryakumar was considered one of the potential successors to Rohit as the Mumbai Indians’ captain in the foreseeable future. Nevertheless, in a surprising turn of events, Pandya was traded in from GT, and rumors began circulating about his imminent captaincy.
The Mumbai Indians franchise officially confirmed the development through a statement on its website: “Esteemed all-rounder Hardik Pandya is set to take on the role of captain for the Mumbai Indians, succeeding the team’s longest-serving, highly successful, and beloved captain, the illustrious Rohit Sharma.”
