In the most shocking news of the hour, Indian skipper Virat Kohli who is also the captain of IPL franchise Royals Challengers Bangalore for a very long time now, has announced that he will be stepping down from captaincy of the IPL team after this season. The news comes just a few days after the skipper announced that he will also be stepping down from the captaincy of the Indian T20 team after the 2021 T20 World Cup which is set to be hosted in UAE and Oman.
The IPL franchise announced the horribly sad news through their official twitter handle just a few minutes ago on 19th September while the first match of the second phase of IPL 2021 between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings was still underway. They wrote, “Virat Kohli to step down from RCB captaincy after #IPL2021”
RCB also posted a video of Virat Kohli explaining his decision to the fans as to why he is stepping down from captaincy. He said, “This will be my last IPL as captain of RCB. I’ll continue to be an RCB player till I play my last IPL game. I thank all the RCB fans for believing in me and supporting me.”
However, Virat has also clarified that he stays an RCB player as according to his words, he will play for RCB ’till his last IPL game”. The reason that Virat Kohli stated for stepping down from captaincy is the same that he gave last week, i.e, to focus more on his batting.
The Indian skipper has not been in a good form lately and it is probably the reason why he has started giving up on captaincy totally, kind of like what Sachin Tendulkar did back in his days when he stepped down from captaincy of the Indian national team to focus on his game. The master blaster had gotten incredible results after doing so and Virat Kohli will hope to do the same.
