Virat Kohli is well-known for his enthusiastic celebrations on the field and animated personality. In the third ODI, he once again showcased his exuberance by performing a “bhangra” dance move upon Daryl Mitchell’s dismissal by Shardul Thakur.
During a high-scoring match between India and New Zealand in the third ODI, Devon Conway stood out as the top performer for the visitors, scoring a century while leading the run chase. Despite wickets falling at the other end, Conway remained a steady force at the end of 30 overs with the Blackcaps at 217/5.
At one point, the team was at 106/2, and it seemed that Daryl Mitchell would join Conway in steadying the innings. However, Shardul Thakur’s breakthrough proved to be crucial, and Virat Kohli made the dismissal even more memorable with his celebratory dance move.
On the first delivery of the 26th over, Thakur bowled a bouncer to Mitchell, who failed to connect with his pull shot. Despite Mitchell’s assurance that he did not edge the ball, the bowler and wicketkeeper made a strong appeal to the umpire, who initially ruled it not out. Persuaded by the bowlers, Captain Rohit Sharma decided to review the decision, despite Mitchell’s confidence in his innocence.
The replay, however, revealed a spike on the snicko as the ball passed Mitchell’s gloves. The third umpire declared him out, leaving the batter in a state of shock. Virat Kohli, ecstatic about the dismissal, celebrated with a dance resembling the ‘bhangra’ form.
