Unlike the first T20I, where India suffered a defeat, the decision to bat first after winning the toss proved beneficial for Shubman Gill and his team. Although Gill himself couldn’t get going, his opening partner put on a spectacular display against the Zimbabwe bowlers, reaching his fifty in just 33 balls.

The Punjab-born cricketer then went on to score his maiden international century in the next 13 balls, making a significant impact in only his second game for the national team.

By the end of the 13th over, Abhishek stood at 83 off 42 balls when Wellington Masakadza was called to bowl. After Ruturaj Gaikwad scored a double and a single off the first two deliveries, Abhishek launched a fuller delivery over deep mid-wicket for a six.

He followed this with another six in the same direction by advancing down the pitch. With his score at 94, he connected with a low full-toss outside leg stump, sending it over the fine leg boundary with a paddle shot.

Abhishek brought up his maiden century by hitting three consecutive sixes, erupting in celebration and sending Twitter into a frenzy.
