In the Vitality T20 Blast 2023 match held on June 16 at the County Ground in Hove, Sussex emerged victorious over Hampshire by a margin of 6 runs. The game witnessed a remarkable catch by Brad Currie, hailed by cricket enthusiasts as the greatest catch in the history of the sport.

Chasing a challenging target of 183 runs set by Sussex, Hampshire found themselves needing 23 runs from 11 balls. All-rounder Benny Howell posed a significant threat with his quickfire 25 runs off just 14 deliveries.

During the 19th over of Hampshire’s innings, paceman Tymal Mills delivered a full-length ball in the leg stump channel, which Howell powerfully swept, seemingly destined to clear the boundary. However, debutant Brad Currie had other plans.

Currie swiftly sprinted to the square leg position, executing a breathtaking full-length dive, and astonishingly snatched the ball with his left hand, leaving almost everyone on the field dumbfounded. The commentator reacted in disbelief, exclaiming, “He’s… oh my goodness me. Did you ever… see anything like that?”

The remarkable catch taken by Brad Currie was shared by Vitality Blast on their official Twitter account, accompanied by the caption, “STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING. BRAD CURRIE HAS JUST TAKEN THE BEST CATCH OF ALL TIME.”

Shifting focus to the overall game, Sussex batsman Oliver Carter played an exceptional innings, scoring 64 runs off a mere 33 deliveries, including 6 fours and 4 maximums. Captain Ravi Bopara also contributed significantly with 30 runs, while Michael Burgess made a brisk 26 off 24 balls, allowing Sussex to reach a competitive total of 183 runs.

In response to the target, Hampshire faced a dreadful start, losing their skipper James Vince, Ben McDermott, and Toby Albert for single-digit scores. However, middle-order batsmen Liam Dawson and Joe Weatherley stabilized the Hampshire innings. Dawson contributed a well-played 59 runs off 34 deliveries, while Weatherley struck 33 runs off 28 balls.
