Winning the toss, MI skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to field first at Sharjah. Rohit made two changes in his playing XI. He replaced Ishan Kishan with Quinton De Kock and Jimmy Neesham in place of Krunal Pandya. Sanju Samson also came up with two changes. Shreyas Gopal comes in for Mayank Markande and Kuldip Yadav comes in for Akash Singh.

Batting first, RR lost their star opener Yashasvi Jaiswal who was in fine form in the ongoing edition of IPL. Rohit Sharma decided to bring in Jasprit Bumrah into the attack after Rajasthan scored 37/1 in 5 overs. Evin Lewis smashed Bumrah for a four immediately after coming into the attack. Bumrah bowled a short ball down the leg with not much protection in the deep. Evin Lewis played the pull shot behind square on the on-side. The fine leg fielder had no chance to get hold of the ball.

But Jasprit Bumrah did not disappoint his skipper. He did the work for which he was brought for. He found Evin Lewis right in front of the wicket in the third ball of the over. Lewis tried to play the pull shot once again but this time he could not connect the bat with the ball. The lack of bounce did the work for Bumrah. It was a back of a length ball which was angling in towards the batsmen. Lewis got beaten by pace as the ball hit his left thigh.

Lewis managed to score 24 off 19 which comprised of 3 fours and 1 six with a strike rate of 126.32.
