In the Legends League Cricket 2023 match between Gujarat Giants and Bhilwara Kings, the West Indian cricket maestro Chris Gayle displayed his batting prowess despite an unconventional incident.
Opening alongside Jacques Kallis for the Giants, Gayle commenced his innings aggressively against Bhilwara’s bowlers at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi.
Despite Kallis being run out, Gayle persistently launched an assault on the Bhilwara Kings’ bowlers. During one of his powerful strokes, Gayle’s bat split into two pieces against Ryan Sidebottom while attempting a pull shot. Remarkably, despite the broken bat, Gayle managed to send the ball racing to the boundary for a four.
Unfazed by this unexpected event, Chris Gayle sustained his onslaught and amassed a commendable 52 runs off 27 deliveries, including two sixes and eight boundaries. Gayle’s exceptional half-century, supported by vital contributions from Richard Levi, Abhishek Jhunjunwala, and Chirag Khurana, enabled the Gujarat Giants to set a competitive total of 172 runs.
