Lucknow Super Giants made a strong start by removing Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra from Chennai Super Kings’ lineup during the powerplay.

Despite this setback, Ajinkya Rahane steadied the ship, partnering with Ravindra Jadeja to reach 51/2 by the end of the powerplay.

However, the game’s dynamics changed as Chennai lost crucial wickets, including Rahane, Shivam Dube, and Sameer Rizvi, placing the team’s hopes on MS Dhoni for stability. Dhoni’s entry into the match was pivotal, particularly when his decision to challenge a wide ball proved beneficial.

During the 18th over, Lucknow’s fast bowler Mohsin Khan enticed Dhoni with a ball outside off stump, but it was too wide for Dhoni to make contact. The ball ended up in the gloves of Lucknow’s wicketkeeper KL Rahul.

Initially ruled as a legal delivery by on-field umpire Anil Chaudhary, Dhoni quickly requested a review. TV umpire Bruce Oxenford examined the footage, confirming that the ball was indeed wide, leading Chaudhary to overturn his decision and signal a wide.

Twitter users praised the camaraderie between Dhoni and the Decision Review System (DRS), applauding his strategic use of the system.
