WATCH : Dottin’s perfect inswinger humiliates Voll on her WPL debut

In the inaugural Women’s Premier League match at the BRSABV Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, Gujarat Giants set a challenging target of 187 for the UP Warriorz, thanks to a brilliant unbeaten 96 off 59 balls by Beth Mooney and a rapid 45 from Harleen Deol.

However, with a flat pitch and a strong batting lineup on the host’s side, defending the total was expected to be tough for the Giants. But Deandra Dottin quickly dispelled any doubts with a stunning first over.

The West Indian all-rounder began with a crafty outswinger that took the outside edge of Kira Navgire’s tentative bat and flew to Ashleigh Gardner at first slip. Yet, the best was yet to come.

Just three balls later, Dottin bowled a delivery with the seam pointing towards fine leg—a subtle change that caught Georgia Voll off guard. The ball pitched well outside off-stump, only to swing back sharply and breach the gap between Voll’s bat and pad, sending her back for a duck on just her third ball.

Voll, making her tournament debut as an injury replacement for Chamari Athapaththu, was left stranded with a three-ball duck in her first outing for the Warriorz. Meanwhile, Twitter erupted in excitement, with many calling it the “wicket of the tournament.”
