During Match 37 of IPL 2023 at Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium, fans gathered in large numbers to potentially witness MS Dhoni play cricket for one last time. The Yellove Army was present in full force as Rajasthan Royals (RR) hosted Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

However, during the fourth over of the RR innings, an unusual incident took place, and it involved none other than MSD. On the third ball of the over, Maheesh Theekshana bowled a shortish delivery at the stumps, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, batting on 31 off 12 balls, attempted to sweep but missed it completely.

Theekshana and Dhoni immediately appealed for LBW, but the umpire remained unmoved and did not give it out. As Theekshana was about to ask Dhoni to take DRS, the captain signaled T, indicating his supreme confidence in the decision.

However, the replay showed that the ball was pitched outside the leg stump. While Jaiswal was happy to see the failure of the ‘The Dhoni Review System’, the two-time World Cup-winning captain, along with Theekshana, were left surprised by the outcome.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was the driving force behind Rajasthan Royals’ dominance in the powerplay, scoring a half-century off just 26 balls. The team managed to accumulate 64 runs in the first six overs, with Jos Buttler playing a supportive role to Jaiswal. Sanju Samson won the toss and chose to bat first, as the Royals seek to recover from their consecutive losses.
