Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first. The Lankans got a dream start to their innings, thanks to a great partnership between openers Avishka Fernando (50 off 71) and Minod Bhanuka (36 off 42). Yuxvendra Chahal’s masterclass in the middle overs cleared up Sri Lanka’s set batsmen and shifted the momentum in India’s favour but Charith Asalanka’s knock of 65 off 68 changed the power dynamics. Thankfully for India, Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed Asalanka and India got a sigh of relief. Sri Lanka’s tailenders gave excellent support to their batting unit. Chamika Karunaratne played a sensational 44 off 33 and finished Sri Lanka’s innings in style. The Lankans put up a decent target of 276 for the visitors.
Coming in to chase, India did not get a desirable start to their innings as their hero of last match, Prithvi Shaw, departed early having scored 13 off 11. Ishan Kishan, who had also scored a fifty in the first ODI, failed to impress last night as he departed after playing just 4 deliveries. It was Mumbai Indians batsman Suryakumar Yadav who took control of the innings from there. He want on to play a great knock of 53 off 44. However, that was not enough and the Blues needed a tailender to step up and finish off the match for them. And that is exactly what Deepak Chahar did.
