The dismissal took place on the second ball of the 119th over. Up until that point, Jadeja had looked confident and was expertly leaving balls outside of the off stump. In fact, he had let one ball go by just a moment before and was rewarded for his decision.
However, on this occasion, he made a huge mistake in his calculation of the spin and was subsequently removed from the game. The ball was delivered at a length just outside the off stump and came in straight. Jadeja expected the ball to turn, so he left it alone, but was surprised when it hit the off stump.
Jadeja was stunned by his dismissal and walked off the field dejectedly. Prior to his dismissal, he played a crucial role in establishing India’s dominance in the Test match. On the first day, he took a five-wicket haul, and then backed it up with a determined batting performance on the second day.
Jadeja’s innings came to an end as he was dismissed for a score of 70. As of this writing, India’s score stands at 349-8, with Axar Patel on 62 and Mohammed Shami on 14.
Murphy joined an exclusive group of Australian bowlers, becoming the 15th player to take six wickets in a single innings in their Test debut (including Bob Massie who achieved the feat in both innings). The last two bowlers to attain this distinction are his captain, Pat Cummins, and teammate, Scott Boland.
