Mumbai Indians did a poor job with the bat in the first innings in their ongoing IPL match against Delhi Capitals. Mumbai have a great chance to cement their place in the playoffs keeping Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders aloof from a pretty good margin if they win this match but as it now stands, it is not to be. Delhi Capitals, who have already qualified for the playoffs, are showing why they are second on the table and so far they have done a good job of restricting Mumbai Indians. However, some great individual performances by Mumbai Indians’ players are keeping them in the battle.
For example, the brilliant throw that Kieron Pollard did to run Shikhar Dhawan made need to be talked about. Delhi Capitals opener Shikhar Dhawan is second on the highest run scorers list behind KL Rahul and as Delhi Capitals will also feature in the playoffs stage, the chances of him winning the Orange cap award are even higher. Dismissing Delhi Capitals’ man in form would be a tough job for the Mumbai Indians bowlers and Kieron Pollard just made it easier with his great fielding skills.
It is unfortunate though that the West Indies allrounder could not do well for his franchise tonight with the bat. He scored a mere 6 off 9 deliveries and he was part of the fault why Mumbai Indians are in this position to begin with.
He has been in a good form overall in the tournament so far but today was just not his day with the bat. The good thing about Kieron Pollard his that, on days when he fails to score good runs, he complements it with a brilliant fielding or bowling display.
