England’s decision to bowl first in the third Ashes Test proved to be a wise one, as their bowlers showcased their quality on a seemingly flat pitch. The early stages of the match saw Australia restricted to 47/2 after 14 overs, thanks to some excellent bowling by the English side. Following David Warner’s departure, the Australian batsmen appeared comfortable in Leeds.
However, the introduction of Mark Wood into the attack quickly changed the game. Despite struggling with their timing, both Marnus Labuschagne and Usman Khawaja faced three consecutive maiden overs from Wood, leaving the crowd in awe as his speedometer displayed readings exceeding 155 km/h.
Throughout his spell, Wood predominantly delivered short-length deliveries, occasionally hinting at late swing. Although a wicket seemed inevitable, it wasn’t until the fourth over that Wood conceded his first runs off the bat.
Khawaja, who had been gaining confidence, had his hopes dashed when Wood bowled a full delivery on leg stump that angled away. Tempted by the opportunity, Khawaja attempted a drive, only to be deceived by the slight inward movement of the Dukes ball at a blistering pace of 152 km/h. The ball sneaked through the gap between bat and pad, shattering the stumps.

Wood’s display of dominance, previously absent in the series, left Twitter in awe, and his dismissal of Khawaja was the icing on the cake.
