During the third ODI against South Africa in Kimberley, England’s all-rounder attempted a premeditated shot that although creative, proved to be in vain. In cricket, innovation plays a significant role, however, it’s unlikely that this particular shot will become a staple in the sport’s future.

Moeen Ali showcased a unique one-handed shot during England’s ODI against South Africa in Kimberley. However, it is unlikely that he will use it in the future.

During England’s one-day international against South Africa in Kimberley, Moeen Ali attempted a switch-hit against Tabraiz Shamsi. However, when he noticed that the ball was veering off target, he decided to modify his technique by releasing one hand from the grip to increase his reach.

The outcome was a strange sight: part topspin shot, part angry uncle waving away wasps from a picnic. No ball was hit.

Moeen returned to his usual methods of accumulating runs, scoring 41 from 23 deliveries as England amassed 346/7.
