During the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2023, in the second match, Rahkeem Cornwall, the West Indies international player, provided a moment of amusement as he was run out in a comical manner, causing hearty laughter among the spectators. This incident took place in the clash between Saint Lucia Kings and Barbados Royals at Gros Islet’s Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St Lucia on August 18, which happened to be a Friday.

Cornwall, who strode onto the field to kick-start the Royals’ innings, faced an unexpected comedic ending when he faced the first ball. The burly right-handed batsman lightly tapped Matthew Forde’s delivery towards the short fine-leg fielder and initiated a single.

Chris Sole, stationed inside the 30-yard circle, fumbled the ball initially but recovered swiftly, executing a powerful throw towards the non-striker’s end. Meanwhile, Cornwall seemed to be moving at a leisurely pace, almost oblivious to the unfolding events. Sole’s direct hit caught the 30-year-old Cornwall well short of the crease.

In what appeared to be a daunting pursuit of 201 runs, the Royals faced an uphill battle after losing Cornwall right from the first ball of their innings. Rovman Powell’s team eventually crumbled, managing only 147 runs in 20 overs, which handed the Kings a comfortable 54-run triumph.

The Barbados Royals’ top order struggled significantly, and it was Nyeem Young’s impressive 48-run innings off 39 balls that helped narrow the margin of defeat for the team. Barbados’ standout bowler was Forde, who garnered figures of 3/12 in three overs, including a maiden over. The remaining bowlers also contributed with one wicket each.

Before this, the Kings had set a target of 201/6 in 20 overs, thanks to valuable performances from skipper Faf du Plessis and Sean Williams. Du Plessis, the former South African captain, accumulated 46 runs off 32 balls, while Zimbabwean veteran Williams made a notable contribution of 47 runs off 30 balls.

Among the Royals’ bowling contingent, Jason Holder emerged as the standout performer, securing four wickets in as many overs and conceding 38 runs. Qais Ahmed managed figures of 2/35 in four overs, while the rest of the bowlers used went wicketless throughout the evening.
