The Women’s Premier League has been generating a lot of buzz lately, as players are receiving substantial offers from various teams. One player in particular, Indian fast bowler Renuka Singh, was selected by the Royal Challengers Bangalore with a hefty price tag of INR 1.5 crore.
The native of Shimla was observing the auction alongside her Indian colleagues in South Africa and displayed an invaluable reaction upon being selected by RCB. Upon winning the bidding war, the Royal Challengers Bangalore team erupted in celebration, with the Indian players gathering around Renuka Singh to mark the occasion.
They joyfully shouted “RCB! RCB! RCB!”, while Smriti Mandhana hugged her newly acquired WPL teammate. Renuka Singh has established herself as a key player for Team India, recently being named the ICC Emerging Womenβs Cricketer of the Year.
She outshone Darcie Brown of Australia, Alice Capsey of England, and her own teammate Yastika Bhatia to claim the award. The 27-year-old has also earned a spot in both the ICC T20I and ODI Teams of the Year. With her explosive performance on the international stage, she has claimed 40 wickets for her country in just 29 matches across both ODI and T20I formats in 2022.
Renuka Singh was predicted to become India’s next top fast bowler following the announcement of Jhulan Goswami’s retirement from Women’s cricket. Singh has particularly excelled in the 50-over format, having claimed 18 wickets at a remarkable average of 14.88. Her family also celebrated this moment with great excitement, distributing sweets in recognition of her achievement.
