RCB found themselves in trouble once again in Match 4 of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) against Mumbai Indians at Brabourne Stadium, just one day after a 60-run loss to Delhi Capitals. After 8.3 overs, they were reeling at 72/5, with Richa Ghosh being the only designated batter remaining at the crease.
The biggest blow for RCB came during the sixth over when Smriti Mandhana was dismissed for 23 off 17 balls. Mumbai Indians captain Harmanpreet Kaur had set a trap for Mandhana, who she often shares light-hearted moments with both on and off the field.
Knowing Mandhana’s poor record against off-spinners, particularly against Hayley Matthews, Harmanpreet brought in the West Indies all-rounder to bowl the last over of the Powerplay. Mandhana attempted an inside out shot to go over extra cover but ended up slicing the ball to Issy Wong’s hands at backward point.
Mandhana was upset to lose her wicket in that manner, but Harmanpreet was thrilled to see her ploy work and celebrated with Matthews and the rest of her teammates on the field.
The incident was noted by viewers, who praised Harmanpreet for her tactics and pure excitement on the field after dismissing her go-to person at the international level.
