Mumbai Indians started their innings with a bang against Royal Challengers Bangalore, scoring 41 runs in the first four overs. Although Ishan Kishan was dismissed early in the fifth over, the hosts seemed to be on track for a successful chase of the 200-run target, thanks to the flat pitch at Wankhede and Rohit Sharma’s good form.
However, the MI team suffered a sudden setback when skipper Rohit was controversially dismissed by Wanindu Hasaranga.
Hasaranga bowled a length ball on the leg stump, tempting Rohit to charge at it and hit it towards midwicket. The ball straightened slightly and hit Rohit’s pads, prompting the RCB players to appeal loudly.
Though the umpire initially gave a not-out decision, RCB skipper Faf du Plessis was convinced to take a DRS review. However, the review showed that Rohit was far out of his crease, and the ball was predicted to clip the top of the leg stump.
Rohit was visibly shocked at the decision and walked back to the dugout without protesting, though he had a heated discussion with coach Kieron Pollard. The Twitterati also expressed doubts about the dismissal, and many shared their opinions on social media.
