The Peter Siddle-led Adelaide Strikers achieved a momentous record by demolishing a high-flying Sydney Thunder for a mere 15 runs, now the lowest-ever T20 score.
Chasing a target of 140 in the second innings, Sydney Thunder’s openers Alex Hales 0(2) and Matthew Gikes 0(2) both fell for silver ducks. This was followed by the dismissals of Rilee Rossouw 3(5), captain Jason Sangha 0(2), and Alex Ross 2(4).
The Strikers’ right-arm off-break bowler Matthew Short took the first breakthrough by dismissing Gikes, followed by a similar breakthrough of South African Rossouw. Henry Thornton, the right-arm-fast bowler, also claimed two crucial wickets before Wes Agar dismissed Hales for his 50th Big Bash League wicket.
Following Hales’ dismissal, Thornton and Agar continued to take wickets, destroying the Sydney Thunder’s middle order. Daniel Sams 1(4), Oliver Davies 1(4), and Chris Green 0(6) were the subsequent victims.
Henry Thornton was the pick of the bowlers, concluding his stint with a five-wicket haul of 5/3 in 2.5 overs. Similarly, Wes Agar, the right-arm-fast bowler, claimed four wickets while giving away only six runs.
