In the absence of a designated vice-captain for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in the Indian team, Rohit Sharma has been seeking guidance from the senior players. Cheteshwar Pujara briefly took over as captain when Rohit was off the field.

During Day 5 of the match against Australia, Virat Kohli played the role of a virtual vice-captain by assisting Rohit in devising a plan with Axar Patel to overcome the Australian batters during the morning session of the Ahmedabad Test.

Virat Kohli played a supportive role as Rohit Sharma and Axar Patel strategized to outdo the Australian batters on Day 5 of the Ahmedabad Test. With no official vice-captain appointed for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in the Indian team, Rohit has been seeking input from senior players.

Kohli acted as a virtual vice-captain and provided assistance to Rohit and Axar in formulating a plan. A video clip shared on social media shows Kohli joining the discussion during a break between overs and offering his insights on areas of the field that can be exploited.

The 4th Test match between India and Australia seems to be heading towards a draw as the Australian batters have displayed excellent defensive skills and the pitch is not offering much assistance. On the other hand, India has already secured their place in the World Test Championship final, thanks to New Zealand’s thrilling 2-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in Christchurch.

For India to secure a spot in the WTC final, they had two choices: to beat Australia by a margin of 3-1 or to rely on New Zealand’s success. Even if Sri Lanka wins their upcoming Test match, they will only reach 52.78 points, which is still less than India’s 56.94 points even if India loses the Ahmedabad Test.
