The second leg of the 2021 edition of IPL is set to underway from September 19. CSK will face their arch-rivals MI at the Dubai International Stadium. The 14th edition of the IPL was suspended after a number of Covid-19 cases occurred inside the bio-secured bubble. Therefore, the tournament was rescheduled and moved to a new location wherein the Dubai International Stadium will host 13 out of 31 matches. Sharjah will host 10 matches including the eliminator and the 2nd qualifier. The Dubai International stadium will host the 1st qualifier and the finale.
CSK’s star opener Faf Du Plessis will make his return to the team for the remaining part of the season. The Proteas captain has been sensational for CSK over the past years and the fans are expecting a hell of a season ahead.
FAF suffered a concussion while playing in the PSL back in June. He was ruled out for the rest of the tournament due to his injury and will make his return in yellow shirts after three months. Du Plessis mentioned that he is recovering well and is almost at the end of his recovery. Du Plessis did not feature in the Hundred as well where he was supposed to lead the Northern Superchargers.
“I didn’t expect it to take this long and I also didn’t expect it to be quite as severe. But I feel like I am at the end of it, which really is pleasing for myself,” CSK’s recent post on social media read. They captioned the post as: “Du Pleasing for us to hear 💛Cu So😍n #WhistlePodu #Yellove,” The post on Twitter fetched many replies as the fans of CSK seemed to be happy about it.
Du Plessis is currently playing in the CPL 2021 where he will lead Saint Lucia Kings. As soon as the campaign is over Du Plessis will make his return to the CSK base camp in UAE.
“I think our squad at Chennai is better balanced for the Dubai leg than it was for the previous [half of] IPL,” he told ESPNCricinfo. “Second thing [is that] we had been playing some really good cricket in the first half of the IPL, so I hope that form is something that can hopefully continue – similar to myself, [I] had a really strong first half of the IPL. So I’d like to continue [from] where I left off. But for now, it is just about getting back to playing cricket.
Faf Du Plessis has been phenomenal for CSK over the past years. In the first leg of IPL, he scored 320 runs at an average of 64.00 and strike rate of 145.45. FAF is currently the third highest run getter in IPL 2021.
