According to news media company Indian Express, Indian cricket team’s head coach Ravi Shastri has informed some BCCI members that he is planning to part-way with the Indian team as the coach after the T20 World Cup 2021. The implications of the same are huge and cricket analysts and team India fans have already started expecting the arrival of Rahul Dravid as the new head coach of the Indian contingent.

Ravi Shastri was first appointed as the head coach of the Indian national team back in 2017 by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) which comprised three of India’s veteran cricketers, Saurav Ganguly, VVS Laxman and Sachin Tendulkar. After a short term with the team, he was re-appointed by the Indian team in 2019.

In terms of statistics, Ravi Shastri is hands down one of the most successful coaches in Indian cricket history. Despite being involved in a number of controversies, his trophy contribution to the Indian team has been unarguable. It is true though that India have been unable to win an ICC trophy under his guidance in spite of having a star-studded team.

Rahul Dravid is hands down the most favourite candidate to replace Ravi Shashtri as India’s head coach. The team that India sent to Colombo for the T20 and ODI series against Sri Lanka, had Rahul Dravid as its head coach and they did exceptionally well under his guidance. Although they lost the T20 series due to the COVID-19 crisis in the Indian contingent, the matches that they played full throttle, they simply dominated.
