During the match between Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals on Saturday, the former team batted first and Kyle Mayers impressed the spectators with an explosive performance in the first innings.
However, DC needed a remarkable effort to dismiss the West Indian batter, which was achieved by Axar Patel. With an exceptional delivery, Axar broke through Mayers’ defenses, causing him to depart. Axar then celebrated extravagantly to mark the occasion.
The incident occurred in the 12th over of the innings when Axar, bowling from round the wicket, delivered a ball outside off, which spun back sharply into Mayers as he attempted to cut it. Axar’s delivery ended Mayers’ superb innings, and he celebrated the wicket with a loud roar.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) had a rough start, with Rahul struggling and getting dismissed cheaply by Sakariya. The disciplined pace attack from Delhi Capitals (DC) made it difficult for LSG to score freely and gain momentum, leaving them struggling at 30/1 after the powerplay.
However, Mayers was dropped by Khaleel in the final over of the powerplay, and this proved to be a costly mistake for DC as Mayers went on to find his rhythm and score boundaries with ease against Kuldeep and Axar.
Despite Kuldeep and Axar taking the wickets of Hooda and Mayers in the 11th and 12th over, the latter had already done significant damage. Stoinis struggled to make an impact, but Pooran’s powerful cameo and Badoni’s lusty blows in the slog overs helped LSG finish strongly, reaching a total of 193.
While Khaleel performed well with the ball, his dropped catch of Mayers could prove to be costly for DC. The presence of dew on the field and the small boundaries set the stage for an exciting finish, and it remains to be seen which side will emerge victorious. Nonetheless, LSG will be pleased with their strong finish after a poor start.
